This particular vacancy relates to the opening in their sustainable construction group. This section offers design validation services of physical mock up testing and detail drawing reviews, helping their customers at design stage to avoid expensive and time consuming remedial work and repairs during construction or occupancy. The investigation services offered by this group help building operators maintain and operate their buildings more efficiently, saving money and energy while minimizing disruption to systems critical to their business.
Job Objective:
Manage the provisions of a wide range of technical publications to meet the output deliverables agreed with the Publications manager
Main duties:
In conjunction with Publications Manager agree the plans and priorities for the delivery of technical publications to the agreed budgets
Manage all aspects of technical publications content delivery, including commercial responsibility to ensure projects remain within the agreed budgets
Ensure that all publications are delivered on time to the publications department
Develop and manage the processes for effective delivery of authoring projects
Authoring of technical publications in a wide range of media outputs
Liaise with the Publications Manager to determine the output requirements
Manage the effective and efficient outputs from internal and external authors commissioned to ensure compliance with the stated brief
Support internal authors in producing technical outputs
In conjunction with production team coordinate the authoring process
Assist with the quality assurance of the outputs including proofreading and attending to peer review comments
Act as a mentor for junior staff in technical authoring skills
When required convene and manage industry steering and working groups
Provide technical assistance as required to other staff and teams
Key Skills and Knowledge required:
• Extensive experience in building services design, installation and maintenance
• Extensive experience of writing technical publications
• Excellent project management skills
• Experience of managing large scale to peer review comments
• Act as a mentor for junior staff in technical authoring skills
• When required convene and manage industry steering and working groups
• Provide technical assistance as required to other staff and teams projects
• Excellent authoring skills
• Excellent written English
• Objective and independent approach to technical matters
• Appreciation of principles of style and structure of technical documents
• Appreciation of copyright issues
• Appreciation of commercial issues surrounding publication production
• Ability to check and proofread technical documents
• Ability to manage volunteers, particularly in steering groups or similar
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to audiences with a range of technical understanding • Understanding of equations, charts, units and measures and scientific and engineering principles
• PC literate with good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
The post is a nominal 37 hours per week, 8:00 – 17:00 Monday to Thursday and 8:00 – 16:30 on Fridays. Benefits include a Pension Scheme and 26 days holiday per year, pension scheme, etc. This is an office- based post in Bracknell.
