Description:
Reports to: Director of Heritage
Duties, Qualifications, Experience & Ability
Knowledge:
- · Expert knowledge of the archaeology, historic buildings and/or historic landscapes of the British Isles
- · Good degree in a relevant subject
- · Excellent knowledge of heritage and the planning system
- · Either IHBC or MCIfA expected
- · Full driver’s licence essential
Report Writing:
- · Ability to write in clear, concise, grammatically correct English is essential
- · Can research and write Heritage Statements, ES chapters and Appeal Statements (archaeology
or historic buildings) to a high standard, diligently covering all relevant issues, conveying key points clearly
- · Can present an argument clearly and persuasively
- · Reports will need little or no editing
- · Can complete other reports as required and as appropriate
- · Can manage others in the completion of the above, and edit reports to a very high standard
- · Can write Proofs of Evidence and give evidence at Inquiries and Hearings
Project Workload:
- · Manages workload of complex projects and other responsibilities as appropriate
- Subcontracting:
- · Archaeologists: can manage all scales of fieldwork projects competently and support others in managing projects
- Advice:
- · Offer expert advice to clients to move projects forward
- · Comes up with innovative solutions focussed on the clients’ needs
Colleague, Client and Consultee Liaison:
- · Ability to deal courteously and effectively with colleagues, clients and consultees, and to build good relationships with all
- · Ability to present arguments clearly and persuasive
- · Ability to present arguments persuasively in difficult situations
Mentoring and Team Management:
- · Is an enthusiastic and helpful team member
- · May line manage Heritage Consultants and Senior Heritage Consultants
- · Will have responsibility for a sub area of heritage, in conjunction with Heritage Director
Business Development:
- · Will develop and maintain own key client contacts and generate new business for the department
- · Will be responsible for marketing a sub-area of Heritage
Administration:
- · Can manage own time effectively and manage workload of sub area
- · Will undertake all administrative tasks required in a competent and timely manner
- · Will be responsible for ensuring the compliance of others to tasks required
Financial and Corporate:
- · Ability to cost work and provide quotations
- · Ability to complete projects on budget and manage others in the completion of work to budget
- · Responsibility for financial reporting of a sub-area
