PRODUCT MANAGER / PRODUCT DESIGN ENGINEER

The company is transforming auto insurance claims, committed to providing superior, digital road collision management services to drivers on a global basis. Increasing driver safety, improving wellbeing and peace of mind, and supporting their mobility and vehicle repair/replacement needs following what can be a traumatic event, they are working across the auto manufacturer, telematics and insurance industries.

They are a mid-stage start-up (pre-series A) backed by leading European VCs, with a great pipeline of partnerships looking to integrate their value proposition into their business model. They are looking for people with a passion for what they do, keen to join them as they scale.

Description

They have embarked on delivering various consumer focused crash detection systems as a key product pillar to delivering this experience.

They are looking for a Product Manager with experience in Product Design Engineering to lead their consumer focused embedded IOT systems product streams. The ideal candidate should be someone who is excited about defining, developing, manufacturing and shipping IOT devices in the automotive/ InsureTech space.

You will work closely with individuals internally and our external supplier partners across a multitude of disciplines – Engineering, Design Marketing, Sales and Executive Leadership to bring your product vision to life – from prototype to full scale production.

You will be responsible for initiating, planning, executing, and closing activities for projects related to the company’s IOT based crash detection devices and partner mobile applications.

Responsibilities Including but not limited to:
• Defining and managing functional and non functional customer requirements and deliverables – including UX and aesthetic design
• Creating a delivery roadmap(s) to efficiently deliver new products and on-going improvements and enhancements for deployed solutions
• Delivery of overall system and each sub component, including embedded software, mechanical housing, electronic hardware – with internal and external partners – from prototype through to production
• Ensure adherence to aligned development, execution and testing processes for HW, SW, mechanical design and manufacturing by using the appropriate and relevant tools and methodologies from both agile and waterfall paradigms as required (ex. Agile/Scrum, DevOps, Jira, DFM, etc.)
• Reviewing, modifying and creating of existing and new business cases ensuring the commercial viability of product offering
• Creating product strategy by synthesising a deep understanding of customers, technology and competition
• Planning project approach, detailed plan/schedule and execution while balancing scope, schedule and budget by working closely with stakeholders
• Report project status, costs, challenges, risks and potential solutions with internal and external teams and different levels of the organisation both technical and non-technical audiences
• Creating, managing and grooming the backlog that aligns with overall projects’ plans/priorities; address risks, issues and dependencies early to keep all teams moving forward
• Providing sound technical leadership and guidance for the solution/architecture/technical choice points, conduct design/code reviews as needed and engage in problem solving
• Validate that the UI and UX experience match the feature descriptions and customer expectation

Skills

• Demonstrated knowledge of theoretical and practical project management concepts in both agile and waterfall paradigms with the ability to use relevant software packages

• Strong communication skills both written and oral and able to cater messages to different technical or non-technical audiences

• Software/Hardware Project Management experience delivering scalable software/hardware and/or consumer IoT projects

• Experience in software, hardware and mechanical design, development and manufacturing Life Cycles: agile/waterfall/mixed delivery projects

• Well grounded in solid product design and manufacture principles and practices including DFM, product verification and validation for non functional and functional requirements

• Time-management skills; the ability to meet deadlines, handle pressure and juggle multiple responsibilities within the context of product development for embedded systems

• Ability to engage, lead and work with internal and 3rd party developers on-shore and off- shore

• Self-motivated, self-directed, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment

• Ability to translate and articulate complicated business problems into easily understood solutions and functional requirements

• Ability to work cross-functionally with a distributed team across Engineering, Design, Customer Success, Marketing and Business Development

Preferred Skills

• Understanding of a range of manufacturing techniques (injection moulding highly desirable)

• Programming experience in one or more languages (i.e. Java, Python, C/C++, Swift…)

• Deep understanding on IoT Ecosystem and Platforms for Consumer and/or Industrial domains

• Computer application skills: AutoCAD 2D, Electronic circuit simulation programs

Experience Qualifications

• 3+ years of Product Development, Project Management, or Product Management experience with embedded HW/SW products, could include; medical devices, consumer products (or other electro-mechanical based products)

• Technical background in wireless, networking, or IOT at a systems level

• Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics, Product Development or similar alternative educational background
