Site: Northwick Park Hospital, Ealing Hospital, Central Middlesex Hospital
Reports To: Waste Manager (NHS Trust)
Interacts With: Facilities Team on site (Customer), Operations, H&S Team, Head Office Teams Hours of Work: Rolling 12 Week Shift Pattern, 35 hours per week
Job Purpose
Responsible for the efficient supervision of the Waste Porters and ensuring that the waste collection runs smoothly and in an efficient manner.
Key Duties
• Supervise the waste porters across three sites, ensuring that tasks are completed and that holidays, sickness and any other absences are covered.
• Ensure that all waste is removed from the waste collection areas, and put in the correct disposal area.
• Ensure that all linen is removed from the waste holds and put in the dirty linen store (NPH and CMH).
• Ensure that waste streams on site are correctly segregated in line with services provided and legislation. Where necessary raise non-compliant issues with the Waste Manager.
• Ensure that all Waste Porters’ training requirements and records are kept up-to-date, and deliver Tool Box Talks (TBT) when necessary.
• Manage ‘one off’ waste collections.
• Cover working role of Waste Porter.
Other Responsibilities
• Ensure full compliance with all Customer policies and procedures, including health & safety and employment whilst working on Customer’s site.
• Any other duties, such as ad hoc projects and assisting with contract specific tasks, as requested by the Waste Manager that are within the skills and capabilities of the jobholder.
• To assist the Waste Manager with implementing and promoting new/improved services to the Trust, for example (and not limited to) recycling/offensive.
• Carrying out duties on behalf of the Waste Manager in their absence.
• Be flexible to work additional hours if necessary.
Key Sills / Experience
• Competent in Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Ability to problem solve.
• Numerate, and confident with the written word.
• Confident communicator, accurate, approachable, flexible and ability to multi-task.
• High importance to providing the best customer service.
• Strong team worker with ability to work on own initiative.
• Ideally at least 2 years’ experience within a hospital site as a waste porter.
• Knowledge of the waste industry and/or NHS experience an advantage.
• You will be required to undergo security checks in order to obtain a pass for entry on to sites.
